Item Description
PATTO - PATTOA nice copy of this extremely rare, and one of the most highly sought after Vertigo swirl UK 1st pressings, of this prog rock classic, on the coveted UK large Vertigo swirl label, 6360 016The dead wax matrix numbers are :Side 1 6360016 1Y//2 420 with stampers 1 1 and 2 at 3.30 o clock and 1.30 o clock respectivelySide 2 6360016 2Y//3 420 with stampers 1 1 and 4 at 1 o clock and 1.30 o clock respectivelyThe appearance of the flat, thick vinyl is excellent.
Both sides of the vinyl nicely solid and completely flat, by the way have retained their original jet black lacquered sheen and impressive luster.
In normal daylight side 1 appears as near perfect and it s only on side 2 that x2 3cm pencil thin scuffs come into view.
Under a bright light a few more wispy hairlines come into view on both sides of the vinyl and it is just possible to identify a small 5mm light scratch on track 1, side 2 which results in 8 clicks although the last five of these clicks are barely audible.
There is a further ligh scratch which is so small it is barely identifiable which results in two mild clicks right at the end of the same track.
In summary, I therefore grade the condition of the vinyl as excellent for side 1 and very good for side 2.The labels are excellent plus EX .
Beautiful labels with the coveted Vertigo swirl logo and black text on the matt textured white background remaining perfectly intact in all it s glory on both sides.
Under a bright light I can just make out a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, but apart from that, perfect The Howards Printers non-laminated and heavily yellow textured gatefold sleeve is very good plus.
Such an iconic sleeve, and so fragile and prone to scuffs which make this a very difficult sleeve to locate in excellent condition or better.
Each edge is rigid but there is intermittent and noticeable scuffing on the bottom edgesa nd some mild sporadic scuffing on the top edges also.
Again, the spine is firm but with some mild scuffing but all spine text is perfectly legible see photo .
There is also a hint of grubbiness adjacent to most of the edges front and back and on the front side there are 3-4 ageing spots close to the Vertigo logo at the top right - I have tried to show each of these relatively minor blemishes in my photos.
There are no creases, no splits, no tears, and no fraying on the opening edges which remain nice and solid.
Open out the gatefold and it s just like stepping back into the 60 s - wonderful Tehre is the occasional ageing spot and a couple of marks towards the right opening edge but overall the condition of the inside of the gatefold is excellent.
All text is perfectly in tact note the Patton - should be Patto - credit on track 4, side 2 which is indicative of a first press as is the beautiful yellow matt texture.
This really is a uniquely designed gatefold outer worthy of gracing any vinyl collection. Finally, the quality of the audio is very good plus VG .
To be a little more specific, the quality of the audio on side 1 is excellent with wonderful tone and clarity throughout, even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume.
No skips or jumps or pops or and just the merest hint of some mild background interference at the beginning of the track 1 but even this fades into nothing very quickly.
The side 2 audio quality is not quite up to the standard of side 1.
As already mentioned above there are eight light clicks towards the beginning of the first track on side 2 and then a further 2 clicks right at the end of the same track.
Apart from that, no further clicks but just a little, mild background crackle during most of track 2 and the first half of side 2 - not intrusive but it s there.
The bottom line is that the whole album makes for a great listen with the real standouts being The Man , Hold Me back , Time To Die and San Antone .
Why this album didn t sell in greater quantities upon it s release in 1970 is beyond me but it didn t, which coupled with the great prog/psych music that it contains, makes this so highly collectible. The tracks are :Side 1 :1.
THE MAN2.
HOLD ME BACK3.
TIME TO DIE4.
RED GLOWSide 2 :1.
SAN ANTONE2.
GOVERNMENT MAN3.
MONEY BAG4.
SITTIN BACK EASYComes with original poly lined Vrtigo swirl inner sleeve a rarity in it s own right with no splits or tears and just some mild but noticeable age discolouration around the side edges, and remaining in excellent condition and fully functional.
Note that I always post the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. In summary a nice copy of this exceedingly rare and highly sought after 1970 UK very 1st pressing prog/psychedelic rock classic on the coveted Vertigo swirl label - a worthy addition to any serious prog/psych vinyl collection.

Most of my records were originally bought by myself for my own collection, but during the past 30 years I have embellished my collection by buying records from a variety of sources : friends/acquaintances, car boot sales, auctions, and even through putting up a vinyl wanted notice in my wife s shop I am now retired and take great delight in being able to spend more time scouring the country and attending boot sales and auctions in the hope of unearthing more vinyl gems...I am 63 years of age now and am still discovering bands and music of the 60 s and 70 s that I have never come across before.
