Item Description
Vinyl,LP Album Mono
Our attention centers on—(lead singer) Peggy and the sisters, Barbara and Jiggs, who are more familiarly known as the Angels (as a result of a local talent scout emcee, who, in an impromptu introduction referred to them as "three girls who sing like angels"). The femmes' initial and well-deserved chart recognition resulted from a most attractive up-dating of a beautiful, not-so-oldie, TilI—which has since become a favorite with "golden group" collectors.
Although they were top flight song stylists then (and even better now), the success garnered from ensuing releases was on the milder side. Then, as it so often does, the "wheel of fortune" turned -and stopped on their number once again. The results, however, have been quite different. Smash execs, remembering (and liking) what they heard on the trio's previous wax efforts, decided to "gamble" with their talents by signing them to a pact with the label. They cut their first effort and released it, feeling that they had a strong chart-contender on their hands.
Their calculations were slightly off . . . The response to the gals' bright change-of-pace, rock-a-rhythm, romantic stand, MY BOYFRIEND'S BACK, had greatly exceeded expectations. The ingredients for the deck's immediate breakout action and jet-speed chart climb were apparently mixed with perfection. The "overnight popularity" to this hit no doubt can be attributed to the fact that it is a "fresh-over-all" sound that the teeners welcome with open arms.
Included in this tempting assortment are the gals' own chart-makers. My Boyfriend's Back, and TilI, invitingly new approaches to The Night Has A Thousand Eyes, He's So Fine; a host of newcomers, such as Thank You And Good Night, Hurdy-Gurdy Man, and a sensational teen ballad remake of the "Snow White And Seven Dwarfs" classic, Someday My Prince WilI Come, which like the others, merits Top 100 chart status of its own.
