Item Description
2 x Vinyl, LP Album Unofficial Release Quadraphonic
This is the first pressing of this release from 1974 using the U - 560 pressing plates.
Sides 1 and 2 of this release are reversed compared to the W - 560 matrix version ( found here: https://www.discogs.com/The-Who-Tales-From-The-Who/release/7864320 ) and it also comes in Red/Blue/Clear mixed colour vinyl.
The cover is on thick card stock with the printing on two panels (front and back) as typical with American style sleeves from this era. Deluxe covers released later in the decade were printed on one piece 'wrap-around' style sleeves of slightly thinner card.
The print on this issue is also more defined than on later issues - this is particularly noticeable on the 'Quadrapig' Logo - later versions appearing slightly blurred in comparison.
Another distinction with this release is the writing on the spine. This issue has the words : ' TMQ DELUXE SERIES 62002Q' whilst the later 'wrap-around' sleeves have the word 'DELUXE' spelled 'DELUX' instead.
The Red/Blue/Clear colour mix vinyl was continued on some of the later pressings (with the addition of 'split' black/colour versions), as were the farm pig labels and U-560 plates. The main distinction here is in the design and construction of the cover - with one possibility being that it was this edition later remembered by artist William Stout as being partially destroyed by TMOQ owner 'Dub' Taylor shortly after printing - it's rarity compared to other deluxe cover types would indicate as such.
Recording is of a concert from The Spectrum, Philadelphia, 1973 and is taken from 'The King Biscuit Flower Hour' US FM Radio broadcast.
