Item Description

Vinyl, , Columbia Pressing, Black Labels
LP Album Mono

This release is one of two known label variations pressed by the [l403953].

Identifying Characteristics:
- Labels: all black, with silver 'VJ' caption and lettering.
- Back cover: includes "Please, Please Me" (with comma) and "Ask Me Why"
- Labels have "Side 1" and "Side 2" in upper and lowercase letters.
- 'I Saw Her Standing There' starts with Paul's saying "Four!"
- Vee Jay Records

The runout etchings of this release are identical to those of the [url=https://www.discogs.com/release/6706180]Monarch rainbow label[/url] release, except for the "X" ending "△ 6307X" etched on Side B. The "MR" logo stamp has been scratched out. The label used on this release is the same as shown in [r1253592], which was also pressed at [l403953]. (The "Side 1" label shown in the photograph uploaded to this release has been heavily damaged, and a photograph of a nicer specimen would be appreciated.)

From the book "Songs, Pictures and Stories of the Fabulous Beatles Records on Vee-Jay" by Bruce Spizer:

"There are two confirmed typesetting variations, both of which were pressed by Columbia Records in Terre Haute, Indiana. Apparently Columbia was not sent any Vee-Jay label backdrops with the new brackets logo.
"VJ 1062(2).MR4A (shown on page 240) has the word 'SIDE' in uppercase and thin microprint song titles. On some copies, the trail off areas have a handetched matrix number and no other markings. Other copies have additional markings on SIDE 2 only, specifically the job number D6307X and a scratched-over MR logo, indicating a stamper previously used by Monarch.
"VJ 1062(2).MR4B (shown on page 241) has the word 'Side' in upper and lower case and has its song titles in thick medium print. Its trail off areas contain hand-etched matrix numbers and job numbers and scratched over MR logos. It appears that the stamper used for Side 2 of this disc was also used for SIDE 2 of the mispaired VJ 1062(2).MR4A record described above."

Based on Mr. Spizers account, this release would be the one indexed as VJ 1062(2).MR4B.
