LIGHT ILLUSIONS - ITALIAN LIBRARY Lp music by FRANCO ALTISSIMI with DANIELA CASA. Original Italian pressing on the CANOPO label CNP 0067 , from 1974. Psychedelic lounge and Brazilian tinged mini masterpiece led by the little known guitarist but important Library session player. Altissimi has that infectious guitar sound similar to certain Rino De Filippi / Alessandroni Library projects. Several rhythmically stunning themes with soft funk / killer bossa and psych atmospheres throughout this beautiful recording. Sounds like the missing partner to Sorgini s Bid On Sorry Puppet Library with similar arrangements and exotic undercurrent. That said, we think Altissimi s Canopo session is even better. We particularly love the stylish harpsichord and strange electric keyboards a la Easy Listening Group on the Botafogo label. Our soundclip opens with the funky bossa ROYAL GARDEN HOTEL followed by DRIVING SOUTH a funky samba with scat vocals by Daniela Casa / the experimental Carlo Pes cum I Marc 4 influenced lounge funk of DOUBLE MOOD / the bossa SUMMER RAIN again with flute no doubt played by Nino Rapicavoli and the title track LIGHT ILLUSIONS with its giallo thriller cum Randall Hopkirk Deceased style harpsichord and elegant whistles. This hypnotic theme was also featured on the Brani Per Scene Statiche EP for the Cinesound label. Other themes we have recorded include the swirling latin rhythms and flute of STANDING and the bewitching SPRING BREEZES with its melancholic feeling of sadness / death and decay. Pop electronique with cascading guitar riffs on CRAZY PLAYERS and the Mediterranean flavoured folk funk-esque BALLAD finishes our soundclip. Obscure mood music for an unknown Italian soundtrack / radio or television programme. Our copy has even been signed by the maestro on the back sleeve Cool futuristic font / typography on the sleeve artwork too. Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG condition overall regardless of a couple of fingernail induced scuffs that straddle the last 3 themes of side 2 and one other to side 1. Some hairlines and old pressing marks in places, elsewhere. Surface noises. Static noises to certain themes. Some other soft pops / ticks as you can hear on our soundclip . A couple of other trax like She Came Lately also has sporadic soft pops / ticks but is not important so has not been recorded. The laminated card sleeve is in strong VG condition with some areas of laminate chipping and deterioration mostly to front top left corner area / back sleeve right corner area and sections of the spine . Some light ring creasing / ring dirt marks from storage. Some corner and edge wear in places. Still a sharp looking item. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Library Lp
