In the 1980's Tower Records Imports (or 'TRIP' as they were nicknamed in the industry) brought in as much as 80% of all the Japanese vinyl that made it into the USA to sell at their outlets in America, and the rest of the world. By buying in such larger quantities, it insured that they could beat any competitors price on Japanese vinyl, and therefore secured the largest slice of the US market for the higher-grade audiophile vinyl that the Japanese were producing during in this period of vinyl history. But since the Japan made LPs were still going to be usually at least about 25% higher in price than the US editions (some more, some less), TRIP would place a double-heavy shrink around the LPs, with the price-tag underneath the outer layer, as to avoid potential customer price-switching in the stores. And that is what we have here! A unopened, untouched Tower Records Imports double-shrinkwrapped 1982 Japanese pressing of The Velvet Underground & Nico's classic self-titled debut release with a unpeeled Andy Warhol banana gatefold cover !! This band, and this record in particular, is one of the most influential in history. The oft cited Brian Eno quote saying (paraphrasing here:) that this LP sold relatively few copies in the first five years of release, but that everyone who purchased one started a band!
