Item Description

THE BEATLES - PLEASE PLEASE ME 1963 1ST YELLOW AND BLACK PRESS IN STEREO THE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND RARITY WITH THE GOLD LABEL 33 1/3RDSTUNNING EXCELLENT SLEEVECATALOGUE: PARLOPHONE PCS 3042 MATRIX:YEX 94 -1 / 95-1 MOTHERS/STAMPERS:1 P / 1 G PARLOPHONE CO RIM WORDING - FIRST PRESS INDICATOR NO SOLD IN THE UK STATEMENT - FIRST PRESS INDICATOR SMALL 33 1/3RD ON OFFER HERE AN VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT CONDITION BEATLES PLEASE PLEASE ME WITH THE EXTRA 33 AND A THIRD.
I AM CONVINCED THAT THIS PRESSING SHOULD ACTUALLY BE RARER THAN THE GOLD AND BLACKS.SO WHY SHOULD THIS BE?WELL FOR THOSE THAT DON T KNOW, THE GOLD AND BLACK LABEL FIRST APPEARED FOR THE ONE AND ONLY TIME ON THE BEATLES DEBUT ALBUM.
THERE WERE TWO VERSIONS OF IT, KNOWN AS THE FIRST PRESS AND THE SECOND PRESS, BOTH ARE EQUALLY AS RARE AND THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE FIRST PRESS HAD SONGS INCORRECTLY CREDITED TO DICK JAMES, WHEREAS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NORTHERN SONGS.PARLOPHONE SHORTLY AFTER THE ORIGINAL RELEASE DECIDED TO CHANGE THE LABELS TO THE MORE COMMON YELLOW AND BLACK AND THUS APPEARED A VERY SHORT LIVED 3RD PRESS 1ST YELLOW AND BLACK THIS WAS ALSO QUICKLY CHANGED BECAUSE THE RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED TEXT AT 9 0 CLOCK ON THE LABEL WAS OMITTED IN ERROR.THE 4TH PRESS IS THE ONE THAT SITS IN MOST PEOPLES COLLECTIONS.ANYWAY BACK TO THE SHORT LIVED 3RD PRESS.
A VERY LIMITED RUN OF THIS LABEL APPEARED WITH AN EXTRA 33 1/3 ON IT.
THE PARLOPHONE YELLOW AND BLACK LABELS ALL HAVE A LARGE 33 1/3 ABOVE THE YELLOW PARLOPHONE TEXT, BUT THIS 1ST BATCH CAME OUT WITH THE GOLD AND BLACK LABEL S 33 1/3 A VERY SMALL ONE NEXT TO THE CATALOGUE NUMBER AT 9 O CLOCK.
THERE WAS NO NEED FOR TWO NUMBERS AND SO THIS WAS IMMEDIATELY CHANGED TO A COPY THAT JUST HAD THE LARGE NUMBERS.IT IS RECOGNISED THAT THE COPY WITH BOTH 33 1/3RDS WAS ISSUED IN SUCH SMALL NUMBERS AND IN PARTICULAR THE STEREO COPY.
THERE CANNOT HAVE BEEN MORE THAN A HANDFUL IN EXISTENCE.IT HAS FINALLY BEEN RECOGNISED AS A GENUINE PRESSING OF IT S OWN WHICH HAS MEANT THAT ALL OF THE PRESSINGS HAVE HAD TO BE PUT BACK ONE NUMBER MEANING THAT THIS RARITY IS NOW THE THIRD PRESS AND THE MOST COMMON PRESS MOVES FROM 4TH TO 5THHERE THEN IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THIS ALBUM, ARGUABLY THE RAREST BEATLES ALBUM IN EXISTENCE.
AND IT HAS A SLEEVE THAT IS ALSO IN EXCELLENT CONDITIONA ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO COLLECT AN ALBUM THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OBTAINTHIS ALBUM WILL WITHOUT A DOUBT GRACE SOMEONES COLLECTION THE RECORDS THE LABELSTHE ORIGINAL YELLOW AND BLACK LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THE JET BLACK BASE COLOUR IS RICH AND VIBRANT AND FULLY STRETCHES INTO THE SLIGTLY WORN SPINDLE HOLE.IT IS DEEP IN COLOUR AND UNLIKE MANY COPIES HAS NO FINGERMARK S, WHITE FLECKS, RUBBING ETC.THE SILVER TYPEFACE IS PERFECTLY LEGIBLE AND UNRUBBED.
THE YELLOW LOGO IS IN THE SAME EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION.
THE VINYL A VERY GOOD VINYL THAT HAS RETAINED EVERY BIT OF THE ORIGINAL SHEEN, AND LOOKS TOTALLY AS NEW.
THERE ARE A FEW MARKS ON IT ,AND IN DAYLIGHT IT LOOKS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION.AND EVEN UNDER INTENSE ILLUMINATION THERE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE SMALLEST AND WISPIEST HAIRLINES POSSIBLEPLAYING THE RECORDI AM NOT GOING TO PLAY THE RECORD BEFORE SELLING AS DO NOT WANT TO DAMAGE THE RECORD IN ANYWAY THE SLEEVE FIRSTLY A WORD ABOUT IDENTIFYING THE VERY EARLY SLEEVES THAT HAD TO GO WITH THE EARLY ISSUE VINYLS.THE FRONT COVER PICTURE WAS A PHOTO TAKEN BY ANGUS MCBEAN WHO S NAME APPEARS AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OF THE SLEEVE.
BUT ONLY ON THE VERY FIRST ISSUE SLEEVES DOES THE P FROM PHOTO APPEAR DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE LETTER S FROM THE WORD SONGS SEE PICTURE ALL LATER ISSUES THIS ANGUS MCBEAN TEXT IS MOVED FURTHER LEFT DIRECTLY UNDER THE LETTER G FROM THE WORD SONGS.
THATS HOW TO TELL IF A SLEEVE HAS BEEN SWAPPED FOR A BETTER ONESTARTING WITH THE FRONT SURFACE.
THE LAMINATE GLEAMS LIKE A POLISHED MIRROR AND THERE ARE CREASE MARKS ON THE SPINE AND IN LEFT HAND TOP CORNER NO THUMB LINES NEAR THE OPENING EDGE.SLIGHT WEAR ON ALL CORNERS THE SPINE IS NR MINT WITH LITTLE WEAR IN BOTTOM LEFT CORNER.
ALL OF THE LAMINATE PERFECTLY INTACT, AND EVERY LETTER OF THE TYPEFACE PRISTINE THE REAR SURFACE HAS TWO PERFECTLY ADHERED FLIPBACKS ON THIS E.J.DAY AND CO SINGLE SLEEVE AND THE BOTTOM FLIPBACK IS COMING AWAY AT THE CORNERS EVERY LETTER OF THE TYPEFACE IS PERFECT.
AND THE POROUS WHITE SURFACE IS STILL INCREDIBLY WHITE WITH JUST A VERY VERY TINY SPECK OF VERY MILD HANDLING TO THE PERIMETERS, PLUS A FEW PIN PRICK GLUE AGE MOTTLESTHE ORIGINAL EMITEX RICE PAPER LINED INNER SLEEVE IS IN SUPERB ORIGINAL CONDITION.
TOTALLY WHITE AS NEW AND UNSPLIT WITH JUST THE BAREST SHADE OF RECORD IMPRESSIONTHIS SLEEVE HAS TO GRADE NEAR MINT MINUS SO THERE IT IS.
ONE OF THE RAREST ALBUMS EVER MADE AND IN WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS EXCELLENT CONDITION.
THE QUESTION IS WILL IT END UP IN YOUR COLLECTION??? MY BEST WISHES AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BID IF YOU CHOSE TO GO FOR ITIF YOU NEED MORE PICTURES..JUST ASK.
