Pink Floyd dark Side Of The Moon . Uk 2nd Press. Gramophone Rim Text. Superb Lp

Released in 1973, this is the genuine UK 2nd pressing with the The Gramophone Co Ltd text around the rim of the label.

Now this is where it gets really interesting. Using as my reference, the superb Pink Floyd Archives website, compiled and maintained by the wizard of Floyd, VERNON FITCH.

The UK 2nd press is identified in several ways. ALL 2nd presses have the Gramophone Co Ltd on the labels, starting in the 10 o clock position, printed clockwise. That is the one defining criteria. Then it gets messy. It could be an A2/B2 copy, without the solid blue triangle. It could also be an A3/B2 or even an A3/B3. So long as it had that text, which on the 3rd press reverted to text starting EMI around the rim instead. 2nd presses have been found with black AND blue covers. Black and white inner sleeves, so the out and out deciding factor is that Gramophone text.

This copy has the Gramophone Co Ltd text around the rim as shown. The matrices are A3 and B3. This pressing is highly regarded within the vinyl world. It finally put to bed all issues with earlier pressings. This also has wonderfully low mothers and stampers, only aiding the sound quality. This copy has been fully play-graded and described below.

I have been given a huge Pink Floyd collection of over 150 albums plus assorted memorabilia to sell. This is an exceptional copy in lovely condition with amazing audio performance.

Cover has light wear and tear. Has the large diameter hype sticker present. A very solid example, grades VG . The inner is the original and genuine cream coloured 2nd issue with patent numbers and made in Great Britain text. Lightly discoloured from age but totally solid. Grades as excellent. The vinyl is simply gorgeous. Totally unmarked and has a deep black lustre. The labels show just 4 or 5 spindle marks per side. The previous owner has written his initials on the label to one side, thankfully written in black pen, so only seen if tilted into a good light. I have shown it clearly in my photos. Both posters are in excellent condition with no issues. Both stickers are present, but are of a style I have not come across before. Please have a good look at the photos. The manufacturer is correct, but I cannot 100 vouch for the originality for this set. However, they are in excellent condition, so all good.

Coaster is brand new, mint. Gel pen is brand new, mint. The DVD of the making of the album is in excellent condition.

Vinyl sits lovely and flat to the platter. Weighs in at a healthy 135 grams. Mother / stamper combinations are as follows:-

SIDE 1. 2 GMA.

SIDE 2. 1 P.

No need to point out just how early these numbers are in the production run. They speak for themselves.

Referring to my bible , my listening notebook, this are the comments I made.

Side 1 plays almost silently into the heartbeats. Plays superbly and quietly through to the ticking clocks on Time . This is exceptionally quiet. The side finishes as it started, perfectly. Side 1 gets my highest grading of Ex .

please note, I do not use the grading near mint or mint for an album that has been opened and played. I see seller after seller using those grades, then go on to describe some crackle, clicks or ticks. That is pure rubbish.

Side 2 starts nice and quietly again. There is a dust pop on track 2 which should either clean out or dislodge with playing. The whole side plays superbly well and also grades as Ex .

So a very early 2nd UK pressing with very low matrices, mother and stampers that plays like a new album. Brilliant.
