One for the collectors: this neo progressive rarity from 1982 is barely ever seen - only a limited private pressing of 250 were produced via the now defunct independent Portsmouth label Airship, and most were sold to family and friends.
Protos was formed in 1977 by Rory Duff keyboards and Steve Anscombe guitars , who experimented with the art of creating music while studying. After creating a couple of demo tapes they decided that they wanted to make a full fledged album as well and with the addition of Neil Goldsmith drums recordings began. In 1982 One Day a New Horizon was issued as a limited edition vinyl LP.
A real band was set up following this, and throughout 1982 and 1983 Protos played a number of live shows. No record contracts were forthcoming though, and other real life issues started to appear as well. And after a final gig in 1984 Protos disbanded.
This cult progressive album has proved particularly popular in Japan after a positive review by Euro Rock in 1993.
Ilse Duff the mother of band member Rory Duff designed the cover working under the name Ilse Sachs.
The music is instrumental with keyboards and guitar leading the way, with Camel and early Genesis as reference points. Melodic, punchy, virtuoso excellent symphonic progressive rock.
The sleeve has some minor staining and some brown age spots, plus a little paper loss to the front cover pictured - it grades VG to VG .
The vinyl plays superbly and along with the labels grades Excellent.
Plain white inner.
