Item Description

Marie Celeste The Matchbox Folk And Then Perhaps Very Rare UK Folk LP 1971 - Private Pressing Of Only 200 Both sides have numerous surface scuffs and very light scratches, but nothing deep.
Fortunately it plays fine, with surface noise throughout and a few clicks, but no sticks, jumps or distortion.
The sleeve is actually 2 pieces of white card in a PVC sleeve. The labels were presented loose and I never stuck them to the record. There is no matrix number, just DOM 1 and DOM 2, possibly meaning Domino Studio to indicate side 1 and 2.
In the early 70 s I worked at The Domino Recording Studio in Albrighton where this session was recorded.I did play the album many times when I first had it, so it is not in mint condition, but does play through without any jumps. For the last 40 years it has been on a shelf with my large collection of Vinyl albums.
One of the UK s rarest folk-rock private pressings, recorded in 1971 for friends and attendees of local Midlands folk clubs where the group were based.
The material spans nicely arranged traditional tunes and covers with some outstanding original songs that feature haunting twin female vocals. The opening track Prisoner and On The Other Side Of A Hill edging into the psychedelic hinterland inhabited by the likes of Spirogyra and Mellow Candle.
This is a chance to purchase what is arguably the rarest UK folk album of the era.
I understand a copy sold recently for over 500.
