Up for auction is a silent witness of the historical event held by The Beatles on February 10, 1964 at the Plaza Hotel in New York, one day after their legendary appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Before the Beatles made their way down to the terrace from the Plaza Hotel s suites they were staying at, the reporters and photographers were given a packet of promotional materials specially produced by Capitol Records. As a folder for the press kit, Capitol used the cover of The Beatles new album Meet The Beatles affixing a 1 X 6 yellow-green PRESS INFORMATION Inside Jacket This Is America s Best-Selling Album banner sticker to its front which can be seen on the currently listed press kit cover. This outstanding example was lying only several meters away from the table where Paul, John, George and Ringo were sitting at and can be seen on the rare photo from the press conference that we posted. The currently listed press kit besides the 1st print cover with an incredibly rare original banner sticker features two glossy 8 x 10 legendary promotional photos of The Beatles, two 7 x 8 inserts containing the description of the photos and a 4 X 11 Special Beatles Issue National Record News newspaper tabloid. The inserts having the red Capitol Records logo include the detailed description of each photo and mention the appearance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show along with their new album Meet The Beatles and I Want to Hold Your Hand hit single. The unique feature of the newspaper tabloid is the misprint of the band members names, identifying Paul as John, John as George and George as Paul, with only Ringo being mentioned correctly.
The press kit cover is in stunning Near Mint condition. It doesn t contain any splits, writing, ring wear, scuffs or shelf wear having a beautiful white border and back cover. Just like the 1st print cover, the original PRESS INFORMATION sticker is also in great condition, just having some super light barely noticeable age shelf wear. The whole press kit is in great vintage condition. The newspaper tabloid only has a very light tear at the top of the left panel, but contains no writing or missing pieces. When shipping this promotional press kit, we ll place the original photos and inserts inside the vintage archival white glassine envelopes which can be seen on the listing s photos.
