John Martyn - London Conversation
Island Records ILP 952 UK Mono LP 1967
This is a UK Mono 1st pressing LP from 1967. It has a heavyweight front laminated flipback sleeve. The sleeve has a factory pinched top bottom spine. It comes with its original generic company plain paper inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl has textured Pink Island labels. These have the black orange circle logo on them. This denotes the very earliest UK pressing. The record has 1st press ILP 952 A-1 and ILP 952 B-1 matrix numbers. These are machine stamped in the dead wax.
This is a genuine UK 1st pressing of John Martyn s debut LP. He was only 18 years old when he recorded this LP. It is very much in the UK Folk/ Folk-Blues style of the time. However, most of the tracks were written by John. The tracks are mainly just vocal and guitar. He does play sitar on one track too. This LP is extremely rare and seldom turn up. It did not sell well at the time of release. Interestingly, this was, I believe, the 1st UK Island LP to be issued with the iconic Pink Island UK label design.
I have some other rare collectible original 1960 s 1970 s Prog Rock, Psych Folk LP s for sale too. This includes a UK Pink Island 1st pressing of John Martyn s The Tumbler LP from 1968. So please see my other listings. Don t miss out
Sleeve: There is mild or more moderate rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is mild, more moderate or moderate rubbing wear on the sleeve opening edges. This is not too noticeable overall. There is an extremely small 0.5 cm dent, or tear, at the centre area of the rear sleeve opening edge only. Again, this is not too noticeable. There is mild or very mild fading to a varying degree on the rear sleeve. There are some light, very mild or very minor fingertip staining, or very tiny stains, on the rear sleeve on some areas. There is a 7 cm very thin hairline strip of paper residue, from another LP sleeve, on the front sleeve. This is near the bottom. This could be carefully removed if desired.
There are about 7 light, or very mild, horizontal hairline creases at the spine area. These measure from 1 cm to 1.5 cm in length. The spine, overall, is in very nice condition. There is a tiny pin-head sized area of rubbing wear on the spine text. Otherwise, the spine text is completely legible. There are some light, mild or very mild hairline handling creases. These are mainly on the front sleeve at the sleeve opening area. They are not too noticeable. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear on some areas. There are no seam splits. Overall, Good condition.
Vinyl: There is a light 3 cm surface paper sleeve rub mark on Side 1. This is a bit thicker than a hairline mark. It can hardly be seen under a strong light. There is a very light 1 cm hairline surface paper sleeve rub mark nearby too. There is also another 1 cm hairline surface rub mark on Side 1. Again, this is not too noticeable under a strong light. There is an extremely light 7 cm hairline surface paper sleeve rub mark on Side 1. This hardly notices under a strong light.
Otherwise, there are some light, mild, very mild or very minor sleeve rubs which can hardly be seen under a strong light. The original inner sleeve, over time, has left some light, mild, very mild or very minor dull surface marks which can only be seen under a strong light. This includes a very mild 7 cm surface streak at the start of Side 1. These surface paper sleeve marks seem to be quite common on Pink Island UK LP s on this era. Overall, Very Good condition. The labels are in Very Near Excellent condition and show light or very mild spindle wear only. The original company plain paper inner sleeve is in Very Good condition. It shows light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading creasing. There are no seam splits.
I have play tested this LP in its entirety. Side 1 plays Near Excellent to Excellent overall. There is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some places. There is a mild click on one track on Side 1. Side 2 plays Very Good to Near Excellent overall Excellent in some places. There is some light, mild, very mild or very minor crackle in some quieter places. There are a couple of mild clicks on one track on Side 2. Overall, a very decent audio copy. This, in the main, is a very quiet LP. Any crackle is always very much in the background.

Please note that there are now VAT import charges from the UK into all EU countries. Anything under 150 Euros will need an IOSS number. VAT is paid at point of sale. For any items over 150 Euros in value. There will be a customs charge too. These vary, I believe, from country to country. Please check your relevant postal service online for details. Please note that these charges are beyond my control and are the law for outside parcels going into the EU.
All records will be sent in high quality vinyl box/ mailers with at least two card stiffeners either side of the LP or 7 Single. I use a cruciform box for larger orders 3-6 LPs . All parcels will be marked Fragile and dispatch time will generally be between 1-3 days after payment.
I will also remove the vinyl from the sleeve place them in a re-sealable polythene sleeve. In order to prevent seam splits. Depending on the inner sleeve I often remove the vinyl from the inner sleeve place it in a separate plain paper, or polythene-lined, plain inner sleeve. I am very conscientious and careful when packaging your LP s .
I consider my postage packaging costs to be very transparent very fair. Packaging costs will generally be between 0.80 to 1.50. I am not adding any further costs for handling, etc...
