Greetings and welcome to this auction,
This week we are listing three very special Beatles items from the estate of Malcolm Congreve Brown, an EX EMI Records solicitor who represented Paul McCartney in the 1970 s and 80 s and who also worked as the director of music operations for EMI in Southeast Asia.
The three items include:
A framed 7 gold disc of Love Me Do , gifted to Mr Brown in August 1984 by Ken Townsend, the general manager of Abbey Road Studios and personally signed by Mr. Townsend on the reverse of the frame.
A framed 12 picture disc of the Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Heart s Club Band LP, gifted to Mr. Brown in August 1984 with a personalized portrait of him stuck onto the statue head on the picture disc itself by an EMI employee .
and 3, this 2 X LP white label test pressing of the Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour from 1976.
Sadly, not a great deal of documentation exists about Mr Brown s life today. One anecdote from September 1977, authored by Sil Perrone and published on the Meet The Beatles For Real fan website, describes how a group of fans caught a glimpse of Mr Brown in the back of Paul s Mini that year:
... He
charmed us up by asking where we lived and then proceeded to introduce us to a
fellow in the back seat. I hadn t noticed
him before. Paul said, I wanted to
introduce you to Malcolm Brown. We all
said hello and asked who he was. Paul s
reply Who s Malcolm Brown?? Everyone
knows Malcolm Brown Does anyone know
who Malcolm Brown is? We never could
figure it out. I think Paul was just
teasing . Then they took off.

A photograph of a legal document from Mr. Brown, sent in November 1971 to Gordon House, a graphic designer for the Beatles and Wings, also exists online and we ve uploaded it as the second-to-last image on this auction for contextual purposes. Please note: This auction sale DOES NOT include this letter or a copy of this letter, we include it for reference purposes only
A Getty photograph of Mr. Brown in a music studio in Hong Kong in 1979 is also available to view online, and matches the photograph attached to the framed Sgt. Pepper s Lonely Heart s Club Band picture disc we have listed in a separate auction. This photograph can again be found with a quick browser search :
Finally, one more framed 7 gold disc we have in our possession which is not currently for sale, has a sticker attached to the back side which states Mr Brown s Hong Kong address while he was working for EMI in Southeast Asia. Please see the last image above for a photo of this. Again, this auction sale DOES NOT include this frame - we include it for reference purposes only :
This auction is for the 2 X LP white label test pressing of the Beatles album Magical Mystery Tour , pressed in 1976.
A beautiful, archive copy of this practically impossible-to-find 2 X LP test pressing manufactured by EMI in Hayes, Middlesex in 1976... Never before listed here on Ebay, one copy sold on Discogs in 2019... Only a handful of copies are known to exist...
