Item Description

CATAPILLA - Catapilla self titled

One of the harder original UK Vertigo swirls to track down with the stereo audio quality being a highlight of this copy

Year/Label : 1971 UK Vertigo
Label number : 6360 029
Matrix numbers : 6360029 1Y//1 420, 6360029 2Y//1 420
Stampers : 11 4 04 / 11 2 04

The condition of the vinyl is a solid very good VG - in normal daylight the vinyl comes across as excellent but closer inspection under a bright light shows a number of wispy hairlines and small but clearly visible scuff marks on each side. The majority of these certainly all on side 1 are non-feelable and purely superficial, and on side 2 it is the same except for 3 non-obvious concentric scuff lines which are just and only just feelable resulting in a total of 7 mild but clearly audible rotational crackles during the second half of side 2 but no skips or repeats . In summary, the condition of side 1 is very good plus and side 2 very good. The condition of each label is excellent EX , the only blemishes being some small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. The condition of the iconic Howards Printers UK 1st press outer gatefold sleeve is very good plus VG - each edge remains firm with some mild intermittent scuffing on the bottom edges and a few tiny scuff nicks on the top edges, similarly for the spine which is again rigid with just the occasional very small scuff mark and all spine text legible. Each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with a little mild rubbing on each and the opening sides are firm with no fraying. There is also the odd small light handling/storage mark with just the hint of some very mild ring wear towards the top edge - nothing nasty at all, and still an eminently presentable copy of this iconic gatefold. The stereo sound quality is an overall solid very good plus VG : there are no sticks, skips, repeats, jumps, distortion or obvious clicks perhaps just a couple of barely noticeable very light and background clicks on either side, and on side 1 there is no background crackle either. Side 2 is exactly the same except for x7 rotations during the second half of the side where crackle can be heard, caused by the aforementioned three thin but just feelable concentric scratch/scuff lines. So, not quite perfect sound quality but still impressive overall and an excellent listen. Comes with original correctly dated poly-lined Vertigo swirl sleeve with no side splits, minimal creasing, some mild age discoluration towards the edgesand the number 65 written in felt tip pen at the top left corner. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.

In summary, some blemishes but still rare and most definitely one of the harder highy collectible Vertigo swirls to come by.
