Item Description

Rare retail box housing the 22 original Beatles 45 s plus the 1976 single of Yesterday/ I Should Have Known Better.

The Beatles singles were rehoused in a new set of sleeves in 1976, the front featured a genetic green cover with a facsimile of the old Parlophone label on which the track details featured. The rear sleeve showed one of four pictures of the Beatles pertinent to the time frame of song. The exception is Yesterday which has a specific picture on the rear.

The singles were later boxed and sold by World Records in a hard case style blue box. However, before that there was a retail version sold through the shops and that s what this one is. These are pretty rare as they were only briefly available. The box lists the originally issued UK Beatle singles but for some reason omits the Yesterday 45 possibly the reason it was only briefly on the shelves? .

The box was manufactured by Garrod and Lofthouse who handled the majority of the EMI sleeve production. The records and sleeves are in very good condition, the vinyl especially is very clean with no damage or wear. The only notable defect concerns the sleeve for Hey Jude - during the manufacturing process the right hand side flap ended up under the back cover rather than on top. It s resulted in some glue residue on the rear sleeve - please see the picture of that particular sleeve.

Overall, it s a great set in a rare format.
