ULTRA RARE 69/70 PARAGON ARTIFACT LP
Reign Ghost released their first LP in 1969. Former band-mates of the past led to the lineup s collapse however, Reign Ghost was resurrected by band leaders and true talents, Bob Bryden and Lynda Squires, with a new rhythm section, and the suitably transformed Reign Ghost promptly recorded their second album at end of 69 / early 70, its title adorned with Featuring Lynda Squires.
Reign Ghost in underground rock style, didn t even survive long enough to celebrate the release of the Lp. The members all went their separate ways, Lynda hooking-up with the main-man productions running the label and Reign Ghost s reign was at their end.
However, the spirits weren t totally exorcised as the group became legendary as years went by. Haunted by rock/blues and earthy vocalist there are particularly luscious guitar licks on Ain t It Great, while the flashy leads and incendiary riffing on Breast Stroke Blues strike into psychedelia on fantastic Enola Gay and across moving jazzy/blues excursions of Mother s Got Troubles. However, their musical highs of their first album are equally in evidence. Breadbox is a blue-print of greatness hailing Jefferson Airplane s psychedelic journey The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil, of acid-visions glories. While More Than I surfs the rainbow straight into fist-in-the-air psychedelic-laced defiant rock teen 60 s angst.
Beyond
the excellent blues numbers, More is arguably the most interesting
and creatively successful track on the set, although experimental fans
may prefer the free-form Long Day Journey No. 2 or bluesy soulfulness
of Mother s Got Troubles. Variation is in full glory within this
platter obvious remaining a fitting epitaph within the mighty Reign
Ghost s glory...
