Today, I have a very rare, 3-track promotional CD single by Mariah Carey: Underneath The Stars. In theory.
When you pop in the CD, it s not Mariah Carey but a German CD compilation called Kuschelrock, Volume 10, CD 1. It s still Sony so I guess I can understand the error. What s interesting is that the CD is screen printed with the Mariah Carey information and the front and back inserts are Mariah Carey. Back in the 80s and 90s, Sony Music was quite adamant about their mastering and perfection when it came to its manufacturing process. They printed a number everywhere to contact them if there were issues. I ve seen a couple of these promo CDs over time and none of them are printed incorrectly...except this one. It is a mega-rare find for Mariah collectors but also Sony, Epic and Columbia MISPRINT enthusiasts. If you ever see one of these again, it may be this one in 2099.
The CD is very clean. Looking in the light, I see no deep scratches or abrasions. Maybe a hairline that s very insignificant. It s housed in a standard jewel case with front and back inserts. The front insert has a minute little bend which I ve taken a pic of. It s hard to see but it s there. Back inlay is also in stellar shape. It has not been removed and has been well protected by the jewel case. See pics. Overall, I d say EX . The CD and the back inlay indicate it s a promotional copy and not for sale.
