For sale here is a super copy of Pink Floyds iconic Dark side of the moon album.
Comes with all the attributes of an original first UK pressing.
Blue tinted gatefold cover.
Solid blue triangle on the labels.
Matrices are A2 and B2.
Black poly lined inner sleeve.
Both posters.
Both postcard/stickers.
Suffice to say that these appear quite regularly on eBay, and are not quite as rare as some people like to claim
What is very unusual to find, is a copy with the vinyl in exceptional condition like this copy. The only real signs of it being played is the odd light spindle mark to the labels. No marks on the vinyl worthy of note.
I will give a detailed description of each part below.
Also included in the sale is a live recording of the album from early in the promotional tour, recorded at Portsmouth Guildhall in January of 1972. This album is still sealed and mint.
A coaster depicting the album artwork is included, plus a peel off sticker of the iconic blue triangle labels. Also mint.
The cover:
Original and genuine blue tint to the cover. Very different to the black covers of later issues. Left hand side is sealed with a fold-under flap, and the right hand side is open. No colour loss due to shelf wear on bottom edge, and just 2 small wear spots to top edge. Minor colour loss to corner tips. Spine has just 1 small colour loss spot. This is a lovely example of this often damaged original cover.
Conservative grading is excellent.
I would expect the winner to be pretty pleased with this cover and its grading.
Inner sleeve:
Really nice example of the black poly-lined inner. No splits, tears or damage. Just light creasing that is minimal considering its age. Correct grey printed cat numbers and made in Great Britain present of course.
I grade the inner sleeve as excellent.
Posters:
Both posters are present. Both are in great condition, although the pyramid poster has what looks like a coffee stain, top dead centre, about the size of a 5p piece. No pin holes. No blue tack. No splits, rips, tears or issues.
I grade both posters as very good plus.
Postcard/stickers:
Both postcards are present. Both unused. No pin holes, sticky tape, blue tack. The only issues to both are a crease on one where it has been trapped inside the gatefold hinge . Both cards have Fasprint permanent on the reverse with 45 degree brown lines indicating where to peel of the backing. A great pair of cards.
I grade these as very good plus.
The labels:
The iconic solid blue prism labels are in good shape. There are some light spindle trails to both sides when viewed at an angle in good lighting.
No rips or stains. To be safe because of the spindle marks.....
I grade the labels as VG .
The vinyl:
Really the vinyl is the cream of this copy. Visually I can see no marks of note of any kind aside of a couple of wispy sleeve removal hairlines. The vinyl has a wonderful depth of shine and a gorgeous black lustre. I have been lucky enough to own several of the first pressings over many years of collecting, but rarely have I seen one as clean as this. I seriously can find no faults worthy of mention.
As this is a visual appraisal only, I grade as a solid excellent plus.
PLAY-GRADING:-
The audio on this copy is fantastic. It is extremely close to being without fault. The detail and clarity is outstanding. I truly cannot fault side 2 in any way. It plays in almost complete silence and has to grade my highest grade for a used album, excellent plus.
Side 1, on the whole is equally as good. My only reservation is the usual light surface noise during the heartbeat intro, which quickly vanishes as we get into track 2. Due to this few seconds of surface noise, I am lowering the grading for side 1 to excellent minus, bordering excellent.
This is a sensational sounding album and would grace any collection.
As a complete and original first UK pressing with the A2 and B2 matrix numbers, correct blue tinged cover, both posters and stickers, I really have to grade overall as excellent. Somebody is going to be very happy
I will post overseas, although I have had issues in the past from both Russia and Italy. I have listed the price for UK postage only. If an overseas ebayer wants this, please contact me before bidding to discuss postal options. I would expect postage within Europe to be around 17, tracked and for the rest of the world around 27. I DO NOT make anything on the postage. I charge the exact cost often less that I pay. I DO NOT charge for packing materials and I try to use recycled packing anyway. If the postage cost is less than my quoted figures, I will refund the excess as soon as I have the exact price.
I also dress all my albums in a brand new heavyweight plastic cover and a brand new anti-static inner sleeve.
All vinyl is packed outside of the cover and 2 stiffeners are used in transit.
I have sold many valuable vinyls over the years and am often credited with Fort Knox style packing.
Please bid with peace of mind that what you see is what you get.
If you have any questions, require extra photos, please just ask.
Album will be posted same day the payment is made if early enough, or at worst the next day.
