Item Description

Desdemona / Hippy Gumbo 7 , 45 RPM SPOT Acetate

Record Condition: EXCELLENT and clean as seen in the pictures. There are no scratches.

This is a double-sided acetate that includes John s Children s recording of the infamous and legendary song, Desdemona . If you re looking at this auction, you no doubt know the story behind it. It was banned upon release by the BBC.

The spooky song Hippy Gumbo occupies the other side.

This acetate record was found in the NY based publishing company The Richmond Organization s archives.

Desdemona is an alternate version that was never released. Andy Ellison s vocal take is different from the released version. The lyrics Lift Up Your Skirt and Fly were replaced with Why Do you Have To Speak . These new lyrics weren t just spliced into the existing vocal take. Andy re-sung the whole song here.

Written on the Desdemona side of the label Desdemona, Marc Bolan , Dartmouth. Also present is a small white sticker wit 1609 7D written on it. Some light wear is evident. See light white rubbing on the label. Perhaps from storage wear?

Written on the Hippy Gumbo side of the label hippy gumbo, from Simon Napier-Bell - master - needs re-mix, no pub. assigned. Writing light stain on B-side label

Some small gaps on the very edge of the lacquer are present on the Hippy Gumbo side. It does not extend into the play grooves. When a needle is dropped, it does not affect the playback. See pictures 10 11.

John s Children s lead singer Andy Ellison sold a similar SPOT acetate with the song Hippy Gumbo earlier this year. It did not include Desdemona. It was one sided and had Hippy Gumbo on it only. The last two pictures pictures 12 13 show this record for comparison purposes only. It is NOT included in this auction.

It comes in a generic white sleeve with John s Children, Marc Bolan written in black ink.

I m starting the bidding at 1.00.

I will not end the auction early, so the high bidder will take it

Thanks for looking and good luck
