JULIANS TREATMENT the
brainchild of JULIAN J SAVARIN, prog-keyboard dramatics absorbing all
the juiciness, art heaviness, kind craziness and inspirational
pleasantness from the late 60s/early 70s period - creating an album
filled with stunning complex underworld progressive rock format amid
fundamental spice.
This adventuristic project was that of Julian SAVARIN, who moved to Britain from Dominica in
the early Sixties. Impressed by the 60 s London now-sounds music
scene, decided to form his own band to start his ideas about a science
fiction trilogy. Rehearsing with John Dover bass , Del Watkins
guitar , Jack Drummond drums and Cathy Pruden vocals .
In June of 1970 the obscure UK Youngblood label released A Time Before This . But due to problems in management, promotion and money JULIANS TREATMENT had to split up.
Julian
returned to writing, concentrating on the second part of his trilogy in
mind Waiters On The Dance released a year later in 71. Again,
there was a total lack of promotion and exposure. Nowadays these two
albums are very rare and healthy priced as collector items.
The
music is build upon expressive and powerful vocals of Cathy Pruden and
compelling keyboards of Julian lots of organ and some Mellotron . Some
songs feature fine electric guitar work.
Imagine a psychedelic/gothic EARTH FIRE yet this very unique music deserves a wider perspective and audience.
A
Time Before This is an interesting combination of prog and late 60s
psychedelia, with spacey organ, and of course, sci-fi oriented lyrics.
Julians Treatment as noted above is compared with everything to do
regarding the works of EARTH FIRE and SANDROSE.
The Coming of the Mule is an thematic adventure with dramatic guitar, as well as classically-influenced organ.
Phantom
City has more of that late 60s psychedelic vibe, complete with
phasing like you hear from the Small Faces Itchycoo Park or the
BEATLES I Am the Walrus .
The Black Tower is a bit more laid back, featuring Cathy Pruden truly as a lady for this album.
Alda, Dark Lady of the Outer Worlds features Cathy singing with a cool evil edge.
Altarra, Princess of the Blue Women has a cosmic atmosphere woven into Fourth From the Sun with somewhat more complex-bends, especially from the drum department.
Anyways,
the original double album doesn t exactly grow on trees, remaining very
rare, satisfying and expensively valued as a world-class
collectible....the bottom line being a truly worthy, wonderful sign of
the times in this original pressing format. Still unknown to many
absolutely worth hunting down in our opinion
