This is one of the original 2,000 copies of Elton John s 1975 masterpiece Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy
pressed on brown vinyl. This specific run was part of a limited fan offering and features the original red This Limited edition pressing is one of 2000 personally autographed to thank you for your support sticker on the front. It is literally hand-signed by both Elton John and Bernie Taupin over their respective portraits on the inside left half of the jacket
This isn t just a color variant
these brown pressings represent the very first pulls off the manufacturer s lathe, ensuring the highest possible audio fidelity before the stampers began to wear.
To put this in perspective, if every state in the nation got an equal share, that would be only 40 copies per state and that s assuming there were none for the rest of the world. Given that John and Taupin are British, I m sure some were available in the UK, making a preserved US copy like this even rarer

The original shrinkwrap with the red limited-edition sticker. This was removed a while ago because it was shrinking up and starting to bend the gatefold jacket, but it s still there.
The original cancelled check for 20 used by the original owner who actually purchased the album at a charity event. The check is dated November 13, 1975, and bears the Thank you for your donation stamp on the very top of the check.
BONUS Because the autographed brown vinyl is a high-value historical artifact, I am including a
second standard copy of the album in decent condition. This allows you to enjoy the music on a play-copy while keeping the limited edition brown vinyl and its signatures preserved. BTW, that copy comes with its own set of pamphlets and poster, Mofi innersleeve and mylar outer sleeve as well

PLAY TEST them. I first tested this when I first bought it at Rockaway Records in the early 1980 s and paid a small fortune for it then . And just before I listed this I played one more time to make sure there were no issues, and surprise, there weren t It is almost completely free of surface noise, and the record spindle is free of any spider-webbing, leading me to believe this has only ever been played a couple of times. The outer jacket shows a small amount of shelfwear from handling before I got it.
The entire package, both albums and all the extra stuff has been placed in a Japanese resealable outer sleeve for protection against the elements.
PROVENANCE: I originally bought this in the late 1980 s from the now-defunct Rockaway Records retail store in Silver Lake, California. I do not know how they obtained it, but a paid a small fortune for it back then, and in all my time of collecting, and visiting record stores across the nation,
I have never seen another copy, IN ANY condition I actually never played it until I decided to offer it here and wanted to be absolutely sure what of what I was offering. It has been stored upright, in a dark, temperature controlled environment. To be exact, I have a custom built cabinet for my personal collection that measures 8 tall by 26 long, and the bottom 3 has doors to keep the dust out. That is where this has been kept for the last 40 years or so.
