Item Description

Amazing original copy of this now legendary album possibly the best copy ever to be offered for sale.
Bought by a friend of mine on import back in the seventies from renowned London music store Stern s African Record Centre , he played it a couple of times before taping it and storing it away.
Moving house a few times he forgot all about it until a few months ago when he discovered it among a pile of other records in a cupboard he was clearing out.
I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw it in such superb condition especially the cover which is flimsy and so often trashed on the originals.
This is, of course, the only release by this amazing band who combined all their influences: American hard funk, Ghanaian highlife and even Jamaican reggae on one monster record which sold little outside Ghana at the time but has since become a cult classic.
Original Emporium Records EMP : 001 made in Ghana by A.R.M.C.
1974 Condition: The vinyl on both sides looks to be barely played with a lovely sheen.
There are, however, the inevitable pressing bubbles and dents associated with nearly all similar African records of the time.
The most visible of these is on Kelenkye Beat but they have little effect on the sound as demonstrated in sound samples below.
I would therefore grade as VG .
The labels are in nice original condition with few tiny spindle marks and a couple of pressing dents visible which would have been there at the time of purchase.
VG The cover is VG with only minor scuffs and creases and very small 4mm tear on the bottom right opening.
There is the original shop price sticker on the front: 1.95 probably a quite expensive import at the time Audio is fantastic with a clear punchy warm sound...
Both sides play with very little surface noise even between tracks but there are a few clicks and pops as often associated with these pressings particularly on Kelenkye Beat sample below ...
Overall I would grade as VG but have a listen to samples below.
This lp would have sold very little at the time so it is extremely rare that any turn up nowadays let alone in this superb condition All samples are recorded from a Technics deck and Amp straight into Quicktime on my computer with flat EQ and no filters.
