Item Description

zipedit Black Sabbath Paranoid Cat No.6360 011 1st UK Pressing Vertigo Labels Near Mint Vinyl Playing Surface Near Mint Astounding Audio Near Mint Vinyl Audio Archive Copy The Best Sounding Copy That I have Heard Paranoid is the second studio album by the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath.
Released in September 1970, the album was for the longest time the only one by the band to top the UK Albums Chart until the release of 13 in 2013.
The album is commonly identified as the band s magnum opus.
Paranoid contains some of the band s best-known signature songs, including Iron Man , War Pigs , and the title track.
To capitalise on their chart success in the US, the band returned to the studio in June 1970, just four months after Black Sabbath was released.
The new album was initially set to be named War Pigs after the song War Pigs , which was critical of the Vietnam War however, Warner changed the title of the album to Paranoid when what would become the album s lead-off single, Paranoid , was written in the studio at the last minute.
As Bill Ward explained that they didn t have enough songs for the album, and Tony just played the Paranoid guitar lick and that was it.
It took twenty, twenty-five minutes from top to bottom.
The single was released in September 1970 and reached number four on the UK charts, remaining Black Sabbath s only top ten hit.
The album followed in the UK in October 1970, where, pushed by the success of the Paranoid single, it made number one in the charts.
The album has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
After the release of their debut album in February 1970, Black Sabbath returned to the studio in June that year, again with producer Rodger Bain, to record their second album.
The album was recorded at Regent Sound Studios and Island Studios in London, England.
The album s eponymous single Paranoid was written in the studio at the last minute to fulfill the record label s request for a single.
The album was originally intended to be called Warpiggers which was a slang term for a black magic wedding.
It was then shortened to War Pigs and eventually Paranoid after the record company became convinced that the song of the same name had potential as a single.
As drummer Bill Ward explains: We didn t have enough songs for the album, and Tony just played the Paranoid guitar lick and that was it.
It took twenty, twenty-five minutes from top to bottom.
The record company thought the album would fare better commercially if it were named after the first single.
The song Iron Man was originally entitled Iron Bloke .
Upon hearing the main guitar riff for the first time, Ozzy Osbourne remarked that it sounded like a big iron bloke walking around .
The title was later changed to Iron Man as bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler composed the lyrics.

This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of any warps.
The vinyl has retained its original sheen from new in my opinion on initial inspection this looks like it has obviously not been played that much in my opinion On close inspection any marks that could possibly be seen would be very light sleeve removal only,, to be honest I find it hard to see any at all ,, but importantly no audio sounding marks or needle marks that would cause any nasty loud clicks or pops that I heard at all Too be honest I find it hard to even see a blemish at all on the playing surface.
No needle scratches The Audio qualityI have played this track for track at very loud volume prior to listing at very loud volume three times The audio is absolutely fantastic throughout From the moment that the needle hits the playing surface , it is obvious that this vinyl not only visually but audibly has only had very very minimal play only The audio is stunning cristal clear and vibrant, very bright and clear throughout without any signs of distortion at all and plays with a lovely deep bassey feel only found like this on early pressings I would grade the audio at least excellent plus to near as mint in my opinion I don t think that you will find better.
Very rich and vibrant through out Please note I always add this disclaimer Please allow for isolated static or minor background static in between tracks only, not consistent through out the audio.
Please remember that this is a genuine 40 year old record that would have originally been played on a 40 year old system. This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for more than 35 years .
A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves cause static.
A constant clean before each play is recommended this will reduce any static and will enhance the audio quality. The LabelsThese are the Vertigo labels only early UK press.
Feature the smaller Vertigo logo The labels are rich in colour and are very clean all text is fully readable.
It is obvious to me that this vinyl has only had barely been played only by the limited spider marks that can be seen around the spindle hole, in fact I can just barely see two or three on each side only.
The spindle hole is free of any ware and of course is perfectly round You can even still see the plastic in the spindle hole very rare to find like this The cover.
This is the original 1st press Vertigo gatefold unlaminated front, cover Always kept stored separately from the vinyl for protection This is how I have always stored my records Please note, this is the second variation without Big Bear references.
rare variation to find especially in this condition.
This shows just very light storage ware marks idents only and barely noticed unless looked for in my opinion Amaizingly there is no real ringwear to mention, that is normally so common on these covers.
You have to look for it to notice at the rear angled to the light to slightly notice any.
This is still strong and straight in appearance Amaizingly no real nasty creases see photo superbe condition of this 1st pressing cover which is nearly 37 years old no splits or teares sharp corners and all text can be read no splits no tares no nasty hand writing The spine is straight and suffers from no flattening with age This must grade at least excellent to near as excellent plus in my personal opinion This is the original vertigo poly lined sleeve no splits or tares just light staining with age, common on these originals due to the fact that the resin in the glue causes this over time There are no splits or tares , this is strong and very straight, superbe condition and original PLEASE NOTE THE VINYL IS ALWAYS STORED SEPERATELY FROM THE ORIGINAL SLEEVE.
A Near Mint Vinyl/Audio Archive copy Final Uprade HOW I SEND MY RECORDS THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE ALBUM IS ALWAYS PUT IS A POLY SLEEVE AND ENCASED IN THE BOX WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION SEE PHOTOS As always I have tried to give my honest personal opinion when describing items listed Although it is my honest opinion I always urge others to do their own personal research on any items that they are interested in purchasing, before, they commit to bidding I have Highlighted all aspects as clearly as possible I have taken time to play this vinyl track for track to give a clear and accurate description of the audio quality as i hear it.
