BILL FAY - self titled
A brilliant copy of this extremely rare and highly sought after 1970 UK 1st press folk/rock gem
Year/Label : 1970 UK DERAM nova
Label number : STEREO SDN 12
Matrix numbers : ZAL-9331.P-2W / ZAL-9332.P-2W with the J T tax code stamped on each side
Stampers : 1 U / 1 U
Gleaming, jet black sheen, and truly excellent EX condition vinyl - comes across as unmarked in normal daylight and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just a couple of extremely faint paper scuff marks and small wispy hairlines come into view - each purely superficial. Similarly, each label is near perfect with the only blemishes being just a few small and very faint spindle lines adjacent to the centre hole on each label, again supporting the view that this record has been only sparingly played. Very good plus VG condition and eminently presentable front side only laminated outer sleeve with all of the colours, art work, photos and text remaining beautifully intact. The only blemishes are some very minor and non-obvious surface laminate creases, some mild age discolouration next to the reverse side edges, and a 1.5 partially repaired tear on the reverse side opening edge see photo . There is no opening edge fraying, age discolouration is at an absolute minimum and the edges remain firm and unscuffed with all spine text perfectly legible. Superb, near mint NM STEREO audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, clicks, interference, distortion or background crackle. This record plays as well as it did on the first day it was purchased, an unbelievable 53 years ago Great tone with crystal clear vocals and instrumentation and every track a brilliant listen. Comes with original, excellent condition poly-lined blue and white inner sleeve with no seam splits, no edge fraying or age discolouration, and just some mild creasing towards the corners.
At last Bill Fay is receiving the recognition that his song writing talents truly deserve...no wonder that these first pressings are now so rare and highly sought after, especially in such impressive condition as this.
